recently the oil pressure light has come on on my efi.
I have not driven it, but i have checked the following so far and the only conclusion i can come to is an 'earthed' wire somewhere.....

1)Oil level ok.
2)oil filter ok
3)when oil pressure switch is unplugged it is still on/flickering - even when engine is switched off

any ideas?

If you have a multi meter measure the resistance of the sensor (wire disconnected - measure the resistance between the spade connector and the engine block) with the engine off and the engine running briefly. One should be infiniate and the other virtually zero - I can't remember which way round at the moment i'm afraid. If this isn't the case then swap the sensor for a new one remembering not to overtighten as it is a taper thread.

If this doesn't improve things then there is a genuine oil pressure issue so do not run the engine until you find and cure the fault.

99% of the time it is a duff connector, wire rubbing on the driveshaft or a duff sensor, but it is something that you cannot afford to ignore, indeed on the turbos the fuel pump doesn't run when the oil light is on so you can't drive them with the oil light on for very long!

Hi ozzienpg.

Looking at your observation 3) I would say it is unlikely to be low oil pressure or the sensor.

If the light flickers with the ignition on then the oil pressure switch wire is rubbed and shorting on the drive shaft, or burned on the exhaust manifold. Pay attention to the wire where it runs over the thermostat housing as it might be shorting out there.

If it flickers with ign off then let us know as it must be something else.
