Having a little trouble with the digital dash on my recently acquired MG 1600.

as soon as i turn the key in the ignition, i get a warning of high engine temperature, and whilst drving, it can get a warning of 'low oil pressure' 20 times consecutively which i can only assume is spurious.

has anyone else come across this?

My old VP did that occasionally, which I put down to a dodgy sensor - a quick thwack with the back and of a screwdriver and it'll be fine ;)

I had it years ago with an MG1600 and it was dodgey plug leads causing the oil switch to pick up current and set the voice off. Last year I had it on my efi and it was the lead to the oil swich rubbing on the driveshaft, again the light didnt come on but the voice activated, Seems you only need the circuit to may very breifly to set it off. The only other thing could be a faulty mother board in the dash

Both warnings are very common.

The high engine temperature is.. well almost normal. Check/clean the contacts of the engine temp sensor (or auto choke ecu's for the austin 1600's).

The oil pressure again happens usually as a result of dry joints either on the sensor itself or on the dash multiplugs. Unplugging them and plugging them in again several times often cleans them up and fixes these mysterious faults for a while.

Our old VP used to warn of low oil pressure everytime you went over a big pothole!
