G' Day all,

I've been losing coolant from A335 for a while now and although there is a tiny seepage at the head gasket which has been there as long as I've had the car, what's worrying me is that the two coreplugs (one to the right of the engine block 2/3 way up, the other on the front, further down, near the exhaust manifold/down-pipe joint) are also leaking water/coolant. It's nothing major and I'd say I top it up a bit about every 500 miles, but I'd like to get it fixed.

Is this something I can do for myself or is it a tricky job that I'd have to leave to the professionals?

The engine is a 50K R-Series btw.

Changing the core plugs should be fairly straightforward, they maybe a bit awkward to get to,but you should be able to do them without too much hassle.
I haven't changed them on my maesty, but i remember doing them on a mk2 vauxhall ashtray years ago with a big screwdriver and a hammer to pop the old ones out!!!!!!! make sure you clean any rust traces from inside where the old plug was and gently tap in the new one, can't remember if you have to use any type of sealant though.Maybe someone else can help on this...HTH

Do it before they go, I think my original MG engine had the core plugs pop and just replaced, hence crack in block or head (never did find out which!), at least it is the "summer" now and unlikely to freeze up and pop them out!
