I'm genuinely interested in getting it an MOT, I like Montego's

 Is this a trick question or something? The Montego is front wheel drive, so I'm sure you already know!

Sorry, I thought with this talk of cranks...

Pretty sure it's the same as the Mini, Metro, Maestro, 1100, 1300 Allegro 1300, just about any fwd BMC/BL car!

No trick question, will a metro turbo lump fit it then if the crank is the same as the mini/metro type. I thought as its got (in effect) an inline g/box it would be the same as the midget ?

Is the G/box not fitted as all or most modern front wheel drive cars ? to the side and not underneath as the sump ?

Yes the VW gearbox is fitted to the side of the engine, just like a Fiesta or something like that. It would be a huge amount of work to fit a Metro/Mini engine to it though, you'd have to change the gearbox and everything that goes with it, really not worth it.

Why not just fit the turbo and ancilliaries to the original engine and even change the pistons/crank etc to turbo spec.;) Mind you, you might as well fit a 2.0i unit or even a 2.0 turbo!

The 1.3 Montego is probably the rarest of all the Montegos - why not find a decent A+ series and stick another one in, keeping the car standard, if the current engine is dead?

There's nothing wrong with the original engine, it's only done 57,000 miles...the seller says it runs like a watch.

But now it's game over, this Montego turns out to be a Maestro, I don't want one of those but seriously if anyone is interested I will paas on the details.

£100 is the asking price, a snip, I can forward some photy's if needed, email address is all I need.

So I did put this Maestro in the right section, thats been worring me, I hate upsetting folk.

A photy of said car

except for the Maestro you could hardly be more wrong! All the others have the gearbox in the sump, with drop gears on the end of the crank so totally different from Maestro/Montego which have the 'box hung on the end similar to an inline engine.

Maestro/Montego which have the 'box hung on the end similar to an inline engine.

What I am trying to establish is, that the crank is capable of taking a flywheel from an MG midget, true or false.

Richard before you say or accuse, nebb out and PM me if you want to.

Not a straight fit, no.
It might just be a simple bit of machining, similar to fitting a Midget flywheel to a Marina/Ital crank, but it might be more complicated than that. It might be easier to use a Midget crank, rods and flywheel in the Monty 1275 block as the mains are the same...

Not accusing you of anything Paul, sorry it came across that way - was intended to be light-hearted.

Midget f/wheel won't fit, as the flywheel has to be suitable for a VW type clutch which works "inside out"... although the engine is, in a sense, a derivative of the inline A Plus unit similar to that fitted to the Ital.
