After months of talk about building a twin engined track car we have agreed to go ahead and do it :) . Problem is though what car are we going to use, I really want to do a Maestro but some of the other guys want to do a Fiesta/Golf/Saxo but my point is these cars have all been done before and to my knowlage a Maestro has not been done yet, Does anyone know differant?
My idea is use one of our track cars to put two 2.0i 16valve twin cam engines in, independant of each other, one for the front wheels, one for the back, with only having the gear linkage (and clutch ect) and throttle linked together. Hypertech recon around £5k to do the job which sounds a lot considering we got both MG's for under a grand, but when split between us its not really that much. MG Rover Works think its best to use rover 620i engines and most of the back end from the MG ZR to get the rear discs ect and keep the same wheel fitting.

So this is sort of like a vote: Do we put 2 engines in a Maestro or use a differant car?

Use a 309! Get two GTI's, less than a grand the two easy, that thing would go like the proverbial stuff of a shovel! It would handle great, be quite light and I wouldnt imagine anyone would have bothered before! The 309 is a great car, vastly underrated..... :shoot:

Yep, that needed doing, must shut up about the 309.......

I can safely say that that is a matter of opinion, I have seen many people say that, and many people say the opposite, my opinion is that the longer wheelbase of the 309 is slightly more forgiving, and besides it would be easier to get the rear engine over the back wheels in a 309, making it handle better due to improved weight distribution, not to mention actualy making it cheaper in the long run as 205's still command a reasonably high price when compared to the 309.

Must get out more!

I've not heard of a twin engined monster yet. I thought the most entertaining and probably easiest to do would be in a van as there is a lot more room in there and the chassis is designed to take a bit more load back there. Stick a rover V8 in the back and something else in the front and off you go! :D

I wasnt to keen on the 205 GTI (because the Maestro is quicker in standard form) untill my mate gave me a shot of his on a Rallycross day he had a MI 16 engine with twin webbers, high lift cam and superchip in it, so there I was battling it out with an Escort cossie on the gravel section and the back end came out a bit.......so I came on to the tarmac totaly sideways, engine to the stop in forth gear, trying to get it back in line with the back wheels on the grass, front on tarmac, way past my braking point for the hairpin :horror: and somehow I got it round the hairpin to this day I still dont know how I managed it - but it went  so from that, yes they do handle but I know of one that has been twin engined and I want to do somthing thats not been done before.

Good idea but we want reliability more than stupidly scary fast (got other toys for that) so 2.0i 16 valve twin cam engines tuned to around 180bhp each should do the trick, which I would think 2 of these should be up there with (track) escort cossies and scooby WRX's and the like. Car is being built for track use so would probably only see the drag stip once in a blue moon.
