I too have wiper problems. I've yet to see an old Monty that doesn't. I have an M-reg. and they work reasonably O.K. except on intermittent. And sometimes they work slowly, and there are clicks from the control box as if there is a bad connection. I've never actually tried to investigate it. Maybe it has a bad earth connection for the control box. But I can live without the intermittent. I just use the one-shot facility.

I have often wondered if it might ne easy to fit a Maestro wiper system. They seem to be more reliable.

Any thoughts?

Derek.

I thought Montego's and Maestros had pretty much the same system up to a certain point? I know late ones had a fancy control unit above the glovebox..I suppose because the Montego outlived the Maestro and had more development..:banghead:

I love the classification of an M reg as old.. Mine's an H!

Tony-if you have a spare control stalk set, it might be worth testing another unit..:)

Old? Mine's an E reg!! Wipers are 100% ok.

I'd say it sounds like a dodgy connection, possibly in the wiper stalk (just like the wires to the tumbler switch on the lights stalk break off?). Try another stalk, as mentioned above, for starters.

The other Rich.:)

Sorry about the use of "old". It is in terms of mileage, though. It had done 230k when I got it 2 years ago, as a taxi. It has had an easier life with me. It took me a couple of months or so to fit the M16, and now it only has one driver, and I look after it quite well. Except that there are still a few things I haver never got round to fixing, like the wipers on intermittent.

If the switch was ****y I reckon the clicks wouldn't be coming from the control box in the glove compartment roof. But then without studying it in detail I can't know, can I?

Best way to fix any fault like this is to try substitution, provided you have a few spares. If not, you really need to try and figure out how it is meant to work before you can fathom why it isn't. Problem is that cars get more complex all the time, and it becomes more and more difficult to understand the way things work (or not)!

No need for four asterisks. This was not a dodgy word.

 Does this new forum do the auto-screening of "naughty" words too then? I'm sure the old one did with some amusing results..

I've got an uncle Richard but we just call him '****'

Just testing...

Hmm, so it does work then. I wonder if it'll blank out a phrase which has its origins in the old printing press - 'cock-up' which was when an individual letter lifted up and was therefore not printing anymore. Of course it gave rise to the practise of 'cocking down' but no one ever seems to realise that these days!

Oops, sorry gone off in a direct tangent.

It would be a shame if it were to filter out the word '********' as well, as I am sure there is a perfectly legitimate reference in the world of car maintainence to the pulley-block at the tip of the top-mast. I bet it leves 'berk' in though, which is more offensive than you would imagine, being the contraction of the Cockney rhyming slang 'Berkshire Hunt'...
