The bonnet cable is broken. It is broken from the indoor lever. :banghead: So I cannot open the bonnet for oil refill. Wadda * should I do?

Soon all the oil will be lost (broken sunk) and I cannot refill.

Please advice me how to burgle my car!

:rage:

This happened to me about 2 years ago at the start of the MOT so desperate measures were necessary.

I got hold of the grille near the top and pulled sharply and luckily the grille came away with minor damage – it is held by 2 screws at the top and the holes gave way to make jagged slots although I did crack one of the bits of grille plastic.

The grille then lifts out as it’s only got pegs sitting in holes at the lower edge.

Once off there is a hole in the underside of the bonnet slam panel through which you can access the underside of the bonnet catch, we then used a wide ended flat screwdriver to push the lever / catch which holds the striker pin, if you push it right the bonnet will spring up onto the safety catch and you can open it normally.

Don’t slam the bonnet back down as we nearly did after the MOT or you’ll have to start again – perhaps buy a new cable first.

I refixed the top of the grille using new screws and oversize washers, it’s held ok ever since.

The worst is you’ll have to get a new grille from the breakers.

Good luck.

If you are very careful and patient I think you can use a screwdriver between the slots in the grill to get at the bonnet release mechanism.

If there is still any cable showing inside the car you could always get some pliers and grab the cable and pull to operate it.

Although I must confess I've never done it, it must be possible to open the bonnet without damaging the grille. The end of the cable is located in a lever which unlocks the bonet from the slam panel. You should be able to get under the car and reach up and pull the wire to open the bonnet.

There is an opening just to the left of centre (that's left if you're standing at the front of the car and looking into the engine bay) of the slam panel and the cable is accessable through there.

Good luck!

My front grill was a bit broken too so i could access the lever by using a screwdriver. I`ve managed to open it. The problem was that I had to leave my computer and I did not saw your messages so I had to discover the lever myself

In deed your help was very accurate and I could have spare a lot of time if I new it.

:) Thank a lot again for answering!
