Friend of mine has a Datsun Stanza (heh), which has indicators in the bumper, but also has clear sidelights that are in the same place as Maestro indicators. This made me wonder about turning the indicators into "dual purpose" lights.

I've tried test fitting a white LED into a small hole in the indicator, made in front of the orange lens. Now, the indicator lights up white, at about the right brightness. When the indicator is indicating, it turns orange as an incandescent light can easily drown out an LED.

I rather like the look, but can anyone advise me on the legality issues? I see a few cars with similar setup..and to my mind it's not that different to the newer VW golf, with indicators in headlight.

Just a bit of fun basically...I like to be seen on the road at night..:D

I haven't seen it, obviously, but I can't think of any reason why that would be illegal. Unless the light is blinding other drivers, is blue, green or red, then it sounds fine.

Nope should be perfectly legal so long as it is white on the front. Similar mods have been around for a number of years for motorbikes (red LED's in indicator lenses) Any chance of seeing any pics of them so I can see if I'd like to do the same to mine?

Cheers

YES IT'S LEGAL AS LONG AS THE WHITE LIGHT IS TOTALLY DROWNED BY THE ORANGE A WAY AROUND THIS IS TO GET SOME ORANGE GLASS PAINT AND COAT THE INDICATOR BULB WITH IT.. THUS INTENSIFYING THE COLOUR (THATS ALL I DID)
