View Full Version : MAESTRO FRONT BREAK UPGRADE
Hello everybody, can you give me some advise on upgrade my maestro front break? can it be replaced by MG3 streetwise front break direclty,or give me some suggestions to replace it by something else.
Thanks
Im pretty certain that wont fit as they have metric centres and the maestro is imperial. They are pretty much the same anyway. We have a ZR160 and that has sliding callipers on the front as does the maestro. mgf/tf 160s have 4 pots that i believe do fit but you need a least 15 or 16 inch wheels for clearence

At worst your existing calipers are in need of a new seal kit and a good clean up. Or your rear brakes are not working fully. Unless you have put a 400bhp engine in, then the standard calipers are more than capable.

yes you are right,I just cant find the seal kit. I am afraid if i clean up the caliper the seal will dead immediately. So i want something better to replace the original one.
I like to drive my car on the road like this ,i want my break better.

Russ, are you sure MG TF front break disks and calipers can be fitted well on maestro without any complicated modifications ? Because MG TF's been put in production in china, maybe i can get the MG TF front break parts.
2 common options open to you.
Option 1:
VW Corrado G60 discs (280mm) redrilled to suit the maestro PCD
Spacers used for the standard calipers
Minimum 15 inch wheels
Option 2:
MGF Trophy discs turned down to 300mm
AP 4 pot calipers with minor mods to fit
Minimum 16-17 inch wheels.
Standard discs are 240mm I think.
I presume you already have vented discs not solid ones?

I have a set somewhere, I'll see if I can dig it out. I am looking next week as I have a set of calipers that need attention. I will keep a set as a spare set but I'm sure I can get another seal kit. I'll let you know

Wow! That is a stunning road. I can understand why you want good brakes for driving on that.
I believe that the discs on the Chinese MG TF are the same as the standard vented ones fitted to the Maestro & Montego. Only the TF160 and MGF Trophy made by MG Rover were fitted with the AP racing brakes as standard.

I've just checked EPC and the MG Motors UK TFs are using the same discs, pads and calipers as the MG Rover TF160.
The attachment is the front break of a chinese made MG TF ,it's also OEMed by AP,it looks can be fitted on maestro directly without any mods, I am just worring about the discs,my maestro PCD is 4-114.3,not 4-100 ,is this PCD for maestro van ?
Those look a little like the AP 4 pots fitted to the trophy MGF's They need slight mods to fit but nothing too terrible.
You do need to modify the discs (turn them down to 300mm), in order to fit them and you'll need 16inch wheels or larger.
