my mg maestro rally car keeps chewing up fuel pumps for some reason , (not while i have had it )

i dont want to have to retire from a rally due to this , so looking to buy and uprated bosch one , that my cossie has ,

but i`am unsure of what flow rate / rating etc would be suitable for my 2. efi

Sounds like the pick up pipe in the tank maybe restricted, I lost 2 due to the pipe being furred up becouse of supermarket petrol. I had it steam cleaned and fitted a bosch pump and touching wood have had no problems since

What voltage are you running the pumps at? If its and EFI then the voltage varies between 9 and 12v depending on driving condition. If the relay that controls this is broke then it could be that rather than the pump that is going faulty. Otherwise a blocked pickup is also a possibility.

Remember that the same pump on the EFI is used for the turbo (permenantly at 12v), which is more than up to the job if everything else is healthy.

surely the other way round Dan? - turbo runs at 9v 'cos it only needs a max of 18psi whereas the Efi needs 60psi for the injectors so runs at 12v all the time.

I don't think it is, hence the extra relays in the EFI models.

The turbo needs the extra flow and hence the extra voltage.

you're right of course, legacy EPC states
DRC3017 - Resistance, ballast - fuel pump - EFI
(but I still don't understand the logic of how it works compared to the turbo)

I think you have to ignore the pressure and think of litres per hour.

The Turbo will certainly use more of them :)
