Hi,

I've had some MAJOR problems recently with H224! Started off when I took it for a wheel bearing which had been going for AGES about 2 weeks ago. Got it done, drove to York and back, and there was another noise. Took it back and they did the other front bearing but said they didn't really know if that was the problem. Picked it up, drove 20 yds then it would go no further. Was told by the garage it was the drive shafts. They did 2 of them. Picked it up (by this time £400 poorer) and now there's a vibration through the steering wheel which gets faster as the car accellerates. I will call the garage but wondered if anyone could suggest what this might be before I speak to them. The car's at another garage having rust done for the next 2 weeks anyway.

There was no vibration before I had the driveshafts done so I'm wondering if they didn't fit them straight or something. Or could it have knocked the tracking out or something?

Some advice would be appreciated...

Neil

Have you used this garage before????????- i've never heard of two driveshafts failing at pretty much the same time (just after the wheelbearings as well) - chances are slim to say the least.

I dread to think what might be causing that vibration..........by the sounds of that garage have you checked the wheel nuts :horror:

I have a strong feeling they're either extremely incompetent and/or ripping you off big time.

Niel it sounds like you are having a bad garage experience. I think it is possible you are paying for their poor expertise and workmanship. I would say it would be highly improbable for both driveshafts to fail at the same time giving symptoms of no drive. I would hazard a guess that when they replaced the second wheel bearing they disturbed the inboard pot joint causing it to be no longer secured to the diff by the circlip, and when you drove off the joint popped out, needing only to be pushed in firmly to relocate it to the diff. As for the Vibration I am guessing that one of the driveshafts they have fitted unnecessarily (in my view) is faulty or they have damaged something fitting them.

So best advice would be, part with no more money. Find out what was the prob with your driveshafts. Were the driveshafts they fitted new or used and did they replace the inboard and outboard joints along with the driveshafts. New or recon shafts usually come with inboard joint at least. Ask them to show you the old units and point out the fault (bet they dont have them though) If you are not satisfied with there explanation, I think all you can do is get them to put the car right for no more cost to yourself, and look at getting your money back for one of the driveshafts at least. ;)

Yes they do sound like they don't exactly know what is going on. I'd swap the wheels round (front to back) to see if you have a tyre bulge, as I think I have this on mine at the moment. Also check wheel nuts, and the bolts that connect the CV joints to the gearbox (if it is a 1.3 or 1.6), I'm not sure on the setup of the honda gearbox.
