Just after some help on a potential "modification" on R514 RVJ...
Will the door caps (interior) from a Montego fit in a Maestro? I am after the caps with the wood effect inserts. Were there any already fitted to Maestros, or would I need to find Montego ones? If so, which one's will fit, if any, as I have heard that the doors on some models are different in size to those of others.
The front ones I like, as they fit in with the dashboard at the front. Do they need extra fittings which would pertrude onto the door card, or would it fit right on over it?
I hope someone can help, as this is something I would really like to do.

Wood door caps were standard fitment on many maestros, VDP and the like. Not sure whether monty ones would fit, but I guess they would if they were from an estate, (same doors as the maestro). You simple remove teh door cards and prize the plastic door cap off and replace it with the wooden one.

Won't Montego caps stand too tall on the inside of the door and show from the outside? I thought this was the reason for the Montego's rather substantial plastic outer door cappings.

No no no no no ......
I know the VP one's would fit. I am after the more subtle ones, that I know were fitted at least in the Montegos.
Position of where the wood strip should be located on image below.
(Wooden strip conveniently absent. :banghead:  )

Looking at that image, I wouldn't say this was the case. They are certainly thicker than the Maestro ones, but seem to be the same height...

I wonder if the Rover 200 wood strips are the same moulding or different. I would guess they would be different but you never know with Rover :)

Monty Estate front doors same as saloon, which are same as the Maestro. Both estate and saloon rear door's differ in the frame area compared to the Maestro.
The door cappings can be fitted from a late Monty but they need adjusting a little as they will sit higher than the old ones and show from the outside.

Oh I see. Yes sorry about that and I think Rich might be right on the monty front too as they do have very thick outer door trim. Montys ain't my speciality I'm afraid.
although if you were ingenious you cuold remove the wood strip from the monty card and insert it into yours. Also try rover 200 doors as they have nice wood strips that could probably be trimmed to fit, or you could make your own. If I recall correctly someone also made a wood insert kit for the maestro, maybe this also contained these wood strips you are after.

Cheers for the advice people. As I suspect from the image of my Maestro's interior below, I'm more convinced that they will sit higher.
I don't fancy messing about with caps to make them fit, so I may have to consider the full sized VandenPlas caps.
Also, is there any wood I could fit to the dashboard? ;)

...and of course, why stop at wood cappings, get a VDP and take the whole interior!

There is a whole wood dashboard insert kit, that can be fitted. Anyone out there got a pic? There was one on e-bay a while back.
I have to say I don't like it but then it is all a matter of personal taste.

There were some wood sets on ebay awhile ago for the dashboard, but they were going for around £50.
I guess someone must have made them at some point.

I saw them, I didn't like them either.
Might just try and 'borrow' the wood from the R'75... :D

John O got this kit for his Maestro Turbo a while back.

You could always buy some thin veneer if you dislike that set and fabricate your own.

I have Monty Countryperson door cappings fitted in my Maestro diesel. The fronts just fit no problems and do not sit that much higher than the exterior scraper seal.
The rears tend to sit a bit higher - about 10mm difference to the exterior scrapper seal. However the door frame that the door capping hooks over needs to be modded, as they tend to come adrift when you shut the door. All you need to do is pop rivit a 25mm strip of steel accross the top of the inside on the Maestro door - as per Montego.
Finaly, I do have a few sets left of brand new wooden inserts for Monty Coutryperson / GSi if anybody needs them.:)

Hi F170 GGT,
I have the montego door cappings with plastic inserts in my maestro. As Gareth says you will need some metal strips to fit the rears.
The front door cappings will go in with a bit of fiddling. But unless you elongate some of the holes in the door cards. They will fit but show a little bit.

Pictured is a Montego interior sporting the door caps I am after.
If anyone has any for sale, I am very interested.
I will ask for further advice as to fitting them if and when I obtain a set.
