Im making an effort to collect spares for my car now, before its too late.like you have noticed, its becoming harder to find parts. i always get extra parts for mine when ever i go to the scrapyard. im getting a small collection together.

the indicator switch is a common failing point, as are the plastic door handles. well worth getting a few in stock.

I find that if you find a good yard and you buy somthing from them often you get yourself a reputation as a good customer and then you find that you can get good deals on multiple buys.

I am in Cheshire, I need N/S front wing, headlight mounting bracket, bumper and bonnet for my 1988 MG Montego 2.0 EFI.

Can anyone help? I can't find any montegos in the scrapyards near me, does anyone know where the good scrapyards are? I can travel.

Si.

No leather or digi-dash, but electric everything else. It's looking very sorry at the moment! Perfect runner tho, 202,000 miles, owned since new.

Can a digi-dash be put in to an analogue car?

anything is possible ,the problem is getting hold of a digi dash to fit ,having the whole car to take it from helps because there is a lot of sensors to go with the dash but plenty of time and a bit of luck and u too can do it;)

Roachie,

there is a good 'colony' of scrapyards in Bury, north of Manchester. I'm thinking of one particular place in an old warehouse where they strip the cars and put all the parts in racks. I got a n/s/f wing from there 2 years ago, all azure blue (same as the upper half of my Monty, the lower half is 'grey' but for a tenner it doesn't matter for now) and in good condition.

Email me or send a Private Message if you're interested and want details.

Quite straightforward. Two-litre cars cars need a speedo sender from a Rover 800 Honda gearbox. Cars with VW boxes need the sender from 83/84 VP or MG which is harder to find.

The Maestro digital dash can be made to fit in the later Montego dash and this part is quite common. The trip computer won't work properly without a fuel flow transducer and all the electrics that go with that.

The Montego dash needs more senders and sensors around the whole car to get the vehicle map to work properly. The only way to get all the gubbins from a MG Montego digital dash into your car would be to buy a complete car and then strip it all. The Haynes manuals have diagrams of all the related parts.

Also digital dashes were only fitted to the early MG Montego EFi (not VP) and only for about 3 months. Digital dashes were fitted to VP and MG Maestros for nearly two years.

once you've gone to the trouble of fitting a montego digi dash,it is a bugger to find bits for them:eek:

Austin Rover had already decided to kill of the digital dash when the Montego was launched so it only lasted a few months. Shame - digital dashes are fitted to loads of cars now and are accepted by motoring press.

It was just too radical at the time and the conservative press and older buyers whinged about them. Nowadays they are a popular modification and until relatively recently it has been easy to get hold of Maestro Vanden Plas dashes.

I think the dash in my 1600 is fantastic and it is a very accurate and reliable speedo - easy to read especially at night and it looks amazing!

There are quite a few scrappies in the Widnes Runcorn area, take a look in yellow pages, yell.co.uk. There's one called Bold street and another which I think is A.T. or something like that, they're the ones I use and I usually find what I want.
