View Full Version : Montego Anti-Rollbar Mounting Bush

Hi, heard a nasty noise last week whilst driving. Checked it out and it's the anti roll bar mounting bush (pendulum bush?) that sits on the end of the ar bar and attaches to the suspension arm. Monty owners should note that my Rover dealer cannot fulfill this order for a part as they have none in the group and are looking for a manufacturer to make one! Fortunately it's not MOT time so I don't have to worry about that and I've found a second hand one from a breaker, but eventually these will disappear. That leaves the potential of scrapping a car for an £8.47 (+vat) part:banghead:
Stupid thing is, my local motorfactors can get Mini and Maestro ones but not one for the car that time forgot!:rage:

Aren't monty ones the same as maestro ones?

I also thought they were the same, alternativly you could replace all the bushes with a set of poly bushes for about £80

An a similar note does anyone know where to buy said poly bushes as suspension overhaul will be taking place on our 1.3 over the summer. (They are a bit tired after 120k miles - I believe they are still originals!)

You are looking for NAM 6857 which is the front anti roll bar bush for the Montego. It's the same part number as the Maestro ones that I've had on back order from my local dealership for some 3 weeks now. That explains why it's on back order then! I'm told that these bushes for my order will be arriving on 16th April...we'll see shall we! If not, then Powerflex do them, well I think they do because it depends what they mean by a mounting, which is what they are quoting as the description for part number PFF 63-305-20 at £19-99 each! I hope they don't mean the other rubber mounting on the A/r bar which is freely available from MG Rover at under 2 quid each.
This lack of bushes is holding up my front suspension rebuild.

the bush on the end of the a/r bar is not available in poly materials as it's rubber and metal all moulded together. The Poly bushes are the inner pair that mount the bar to the underside of the floopan.

Not going to believe this:banghead:
Yesterday sourced a bush, sent a cheque in the post. This morning, Rover dealer rings me. my unsourceable part, on back order forever, has arrived:rage:
Quick phone call to first source, cancel order, go to Rover dealer. Only because it's cheaper for a new part than a second hand one.
This time tomorrow, no more knocking:D

Simon, the website for the other supplier I found is:
www.montego-and-maestro.co.uk
Nice lads, very helpful. They quoted me £10 for the part with £5 carriage.

I would advise exercising caution with them (and think others would too) - they are not as efficient a business as they seem to be. Although I did pay them a fairly sucessful visit with Simon R, they have been less than helpful on several occasions to my knowledge...

:nonono:
I wouldn't recommend them really. The dealers have located one bush for me, just waiting for the matching half of the pair now. Fingers crossed...

Had a mounting bush go on my Montego in January. Same thing, dealer said it goes on back order and who knows when it will arrive (I was getting the part for my mechanic as I was passing the Rover dealer anyway). My mechaninc rang up and got a pair next day. The trick is, you have to tell Rover dealers that the car is off the road (and get a mechaninc known to them to say so) and everything gets fast tracked!!!
Having said that, I think I may get a couple or so ordered for future stock.....!!
On a different subject, bonnet release cables seem to be unobtainable under any circumstances. Fortunately, the cable is bicycle brake cable and if you're careful you can use all the bits off the broken cable to make a new one up using bike brake cable (tandem cable is long enough, just!).

I'm still waiting for my bushes. In all honesty I don't think that they have ordered them and are giving me a load of lies.
Ledbury has bonnet release cables.

Thanks for that, I'll get in contact with them.
I've rung my mechanic to see if he can order some ARB mounting bushes - I'll let you know if he's successful.

Don't Motobuild do polybushes that'd do the job?

They do the mountings but not the ones at the end of the ARB unfortunately.
Dealers use the term VOR (vehicle off the road) to fast track parts. My local dealer slow tracks them instead!

Will the Maestro ones not fit? I know I had one that had a different sized stud on it some years ago - just drilled the wishbone out to take the larger stud.
:violin: All academic now for me. K611 HDT gone to the breakers in the sky.
Seen a nice one today though, nightfire red estate, going on the arches and tailgate though.

And guess what - I broke the stud off one today! Bother.

And got one today over the counter from my local (Telford) Rover dealer. They've got one left and it was 5p short of a tenner.

That'll be £8-47 + VAT then! Can you buy it for me please and I'll rush you a cheque. That'd be most helpful. Marshall of Bedford don't want to know I'm afraid. They've managed to get one for me, but the other one is "still on back order, sir." As I've said before this is holding up my front suspension transplant, where the *whole lot* is being renewed, and the my suspension is groaning and knocking away like a good 'un.

Yeah, email me your address and I'll stick it in the post tomorrow. I'm sure you'll send the dosh.
As for the suspension rebuild - you could always leave it off. Not all models had 'em in the first place and I had to drive mine this morning to get to a course and to be honest there wasn't any appreciable difference without it.

Wait till you throw it round a few bends you'll soon notice the difference as the car rolls much more, that is why I'm gonna be retrofitting one to my 1.3.

Yeah - but I don't throw it round bends!

Damn, my secret life abusing maestros is out.
Mind you the I'm expecting wonderful things when I overhaul the suspension this winter. (my shocks I think are original at 117k! :o)
