guys i am breakign my dlx turbo monty diesel next week and am woundering if i can fit the engine and box in to a monty estate that has an 1.6 automatic fitted the estate is a 1991/92 j reg and the engine came out of a 1991/92 j reg monty saloon i have all the wiring looms form the monty saloon to go with the engine and all the bits like the exhaust and the fuel tank and fuel lines oh and the rad and oil cooling pipes to.

It should be a streight foward swap. especially if you still have the doner car.

i do still have teh donor car yes why is there anything else i need apart from the main bits like the engine.

Personally I would only be able to answer that when I had done the job but I guess you will need bits from the gear change and possibly silly little things like the peddle assembly, that is assuming you are using the manual gearbox.

could u use the diesel engine on the auto box or is it not possible i have still got the donor car with the gaer shift bits and will the gearbox mounts be the same ?? i have them all i am just not sure..

I scrapped a Diesel saloon, with the thought of putting the engine in a 1.6 manual. I ended up buying another diesel Montego instead and keeping the engine for spares.
I did look in detail at the differences, and one thing that can be overlooked is the difference between the front crossmembers. There is a bracket for an engine mounting on the front crossmember for the diesel ( and maybe the 2.0 petrol) that is not on the 1.6 crossmember.
You will need to use the front suspension struts also as these are different to take the increased weight of the powerplant.
I decided the engine swop was not worth doing unless the original engine was knackered.
