Screaching clutch!

Hi

I took my Maestro to Spain left it there 6 months, collected 10 days ago tyres flat hooligans

English not Spanish pumped tyres up engine started up! after turning over for 10 15 seconds remarkable. But driving back 1330 miles, when I depress the clutch I get a screaching sound not all the time noticable when cold noise reduces when worm. Thrust bearing? perhaps.

Sounds like it..

I seem to remember if it has the VW box then you can replace it without removing the gearbox.

Hi,

It is unusual for the vw gearbox release bearing to become noisey, unless the gearbox has been run low on oil. It is worth checking the gearbox oil level if only to save further damage to the gearbox, although it may be too late for the release bearing.:(
