The gasket under the Maestro turbo diesel lift pump needs renewing.
Obviously the ring of screws need to come out and the pipes disconnecting. However what is it connected to underneath and how is this released and are there any other precautions to take.
thanks for any advice.

Do you mean the gasket that seals the lift pump to the cylibnder head is leaking oil?
If so then the "ring of screws" which you describe can be left in place. The 2 pipes (13mm) have to be removed and the the 2 10mm bolts that secure the pump to head/cam cover have to be removed.
Then the gasket can be replaced.
If it is leaking Diesel from around the "ring of screws" try tightening them (screws) up first. You can buy a repair kit from MG/Rover with the Diaphragm in, but i think they are quite costly.
If you need a complete new pump let me know, i can get O.E ones for about £18.

Thanks Biglad. Yes it is just the gasket on the top of the lift pump and not where it is connected to the head.
Have tightened the screws on numerous occasions which stops it weeping for a period of time. However it always begins again. The number of times I've tightened it either the gasket is completely flattened or the screws actually come loose.
So from what you say if I can get just the gasket it is a simple remove and replace?

If your pump is leaking around the screws it is the main Diaphragm (that you call the gasket) that is leaking. If you have tightened the screws up before it has probably seen better days and needs replacing.
Like i said the repair kit (including diaphragm) is available from MG/Rover but quite expensive.
