Amazing how my wife has always laughed at my old maestro van until this morning when her car wouldn't start! The old girl (the van that is) has never been so much in demand.

Sounds about right.

A colleague at work was joking yesterday that the reason the release of Gran Turismo 4 on the Playstation has been delayed so often is because Sony will no doubt be having problems getting the MG Maestro Turbo in it to start (a playful dig at me because it's my car Sony photographed). So I simply smiled and asked him who was it who only six months ago had to spend £600 to have the gearbox on his 35k 1998 Fiat Punto completely rebuilt, because it literally fell apart? Silence was his loud reply.

Reliability was never a Maestro problem. Sadly, poor design and assembly was.

Fiat's reliability? I have been driving several second-hand Alpha-Romeo's in my job recently. It's always a gamble knowing wether they will start after being sat for a while!:p

Alfa Romeos eh? Well even from new it is a gamble whether they'll self desrtuct or simply not go. One I had from work had 400 miles from new and already had 5 faults on it.

I had a lovely Alfa 33 green clover leaf which I stupidly scrapped because the ex wanted something newer, should have bought her a shopping trolly and kept it. Parts were cheap and easy to get, it was easy to work on and went like stink. There is only one other car I regret scrapping and that was a MG Monty turbo.
