There are two different 1600 engines used in the Maestro. The earlier type is the R Series used for only around a year very early on in production. The latter type is the S Series (which is the type fitted to your car). This engine was also the only 1600 engine fitted to the Montego (The Montego was never fitted with the R Series). Consequently if you are shopping for a new fuel pump, any that states it is for a 1600 Montego will fit your Maestro with no problems. There are a wide variety of aftermarket manufacturers for you to choose from on eBay. You can also still buy them from your local motorfactors.
In my experiance, replacement fuel pumps don't last anywhere near as long as the pumps fitted as new by Austin Rover or Rover Group. They are cheap and nasty in their construction and even feel of a lesser quality. Thankfully, the fuel pump on the S Series is very easy to change!
