I need a new set of steel bumpers for my car as the current set have rusted right through and the filler the last owner applied to them is falling off. I have been quoted £130.00 for a new set from my local auto store. Is this the price i can expect to pay everywhere, or do any of you know a cheaper place to buy them?

:(

Try a bumper specialist that deals in metal bumpers. You can find such companies in the salvage and parts section of the Autotrader. They are most likely to cost 60 quid each(!). Failing that, Montego & Maestro Parts in Birmingham should get you both bumpers quite cheaply inclusive of delivery (0121 471 2111). Rear bumpers tend to get bent quite easily but rust free front bumpers should be in plentiful supply in scrapyards.

Tip: Once you've got hold of the bumpers give them a good spray of waxoyl on the inside

Thanks for that! I had forgotten about the Maestro & Montego parts co.

I have sent them an enquiry form to see if they can help. Hopefully any money i can save will pay for a tin of Waxoil!

I have a 2.0 Clubman Diesel with metal bumpers that I'm going to break. If i'm honest i haven't paid much attention to the condition of them, but if you want them they will be very cheap!! I'll have a good look at them tomorrow (or later today- is that the time!!)
E-mail me if you are interested,
Thanks Biglad

BIGLAD, I have sent you a private message regarding the bumpers from your car.

£130.00 seems a bit much for a new set, but at the moment, there are none to be had in the scrapyards and my car really does look sorry for itself.

Aargh, I don't remember seeing your bumpers in that condition when I saw it last. That last owner wasn't really any good was he?

The dammage happened when i took the bumpers off. I stood it up on its end and lent it against the wall. When i picked it up again, half of it fell off. As you can see from the picture, it was made up of 90% filler. There is'nt much metal left.

I am in dire need of a new set!

The number of bodges by the last owner of my car is simply unbelieveable

Eeeeep sounds a bit steep for a bit of bent metal. if they are straight along their length you can have them made up in galvanised steel for a lot less. can't remember if they are curved but I don't think they are. (I'm probably talking out of my a*se though)

They do have a slight curve in them, as those of us who've tried using sticky pads or velcro to hold the number plate on well know!

Here's your evidence to suggest that the bumpers are curved: ;)

That'll teach me to be lazy and not go and look in the garage!

When I replaced the rear one on George I never remember it being that curved! Ahh well guess the grey cells are failing me in my old age!

MOT day tomorrow.... EEeeep wonder what he'll fail on this time...

 Don't think F170 will fail severely, everything looks sound. Recently rustproofed the underside, no corrosion at all!
The only thing bugging me is the nearside front shocker is squeaking a bit - I can get the wiper rubbers sorted in time, though!

Anyway, I will try to check the emissions when I take him to college workshop on Friday.
