As a follow up to last year's Maestro birthday party at Salston manor Hotel, The MG M Group's South West Area are organising GB Classic Family Car Day.
There will be tram rides, lunch, cream teas, a professional classic car auction, autojumble, new MGs on display and MAESTROS! Probably a few Montegos as well.
This year it will take place on Sunday 2nd May. If you want a contact number, please e-mail me for details - matthewsemple@hotmail.com

Many cars found new owners at the auction including this 1982 MG Metro 1300 which went for £50. :D

Perhaps it would be better titled a "South West Classic Car Day", rather than a "GB Cassic Car Day" seeing that the majority of the the population of GB are out of reasonable travelling-distance of the venue (150 miles+).
Or does the title mean to infer that the event is a Classic Car Day concentrating on cars made in GB, but aimed primarily at South Westerners? In which case that's not a sin in itself but perhaps the title needs a bit more thought.

Hi John,
I think it was meant to mean Great British Saloon Day - as in cars built in Great Britain. It was organised by the MG M Group's South West Area Group so the location was just outside Exeter but it was not aimed at people who live in the South West.
Cars that turned up were built all over the country and as not many British cars were built in Devon, I think it was a fair title. ;)

Nice pictures though, thanks for posting them. Can't remember when I last saw (or heard) a 'twin plenum' SD1 - Practical Classics mag about 3 years ago, I think? They're as rare as rocking horse poo, or hens' teeth...
Looks to have been a damn good day.

I didn't have much on on Sunday 2nd and went along to see what all the fuss was about, total distance covered on the day 509 miles (including a detour around Dartmoor!) and I enjoyed every minute of it, including the drive of course. The title seems accurate enough even though some of us had to bring non-classics.
The camera came too of course...

Yes it was a great day - glad you liked the pictures. Here's another rarity - Vanden Plas Princess 1300 (parked next to an Aston)
There was an immaculate C-reg Maestro City X there as well - but I didn't get a picture :banghead:

All cars built at Longbridge, Cowley, Abingdon, etc were/are instant classics the moment they rolled off the production line. Maybe not the MINI that B*W build!

It is owned by Martin Street - chairman of the SWAG. It was given to the SWAG by its original owners who had it from new. It was sold by Binding & Payne Austin Rover dealers in Clevedon and lived most of its life in Weston Super Mare.
The great thing about it is that it is one of the few surviving 2.0 litre cars fitted with the optional digital dash.
It may be at MG Saloon Day on 4th July as the SWAG are intending to attend this year. :)
