Have just received my magazine from MGM Group. They have stated that there has been a reduced number of clubs taking stands this year at the NEC and neither they or the MMOC will be attending?.

I thought it was supposed to be 6 halls this year - it was 4 last year I'm sure.

So why a REDUCED number of clubs?

Beaker
16th September 2009, 11:35
There isn't a reduced number of stands it is the opposite.

But no the MGM club didn't get in, and I am not sure if MMOC even applied.

Both the MG'M' Group and the M&MOC were unsuccessful with their applications for the 2009 show.

I get the impression the show is always oversubscribed. Sometimes you get in, sometimes you don't.

Thats a great shame...a case of some you win etc I guess

Unfortunately that's me probably out then.

Why mate? Surely you weren't solely going for the Maestro and Montego displays?

Look at my pics from last year - they're all over the net. That should do it.

Are the MacDroitwich lot going to be putting an appearance in Steven?

Absolutely Slow. I believe we were 15 strong for the evening event last year. More during the day, but not everyone can or indeed wants to stay over. In fact, its difficult to stay together as a group in the NEC when your party is that size. We looked at getting a BL stand together, but were not selected.

Captain Slow

Discussing staying over - I presume you're doing the Friday or Saturday show then? I rather enjoyed last year's so am hopefully dropping in again on the Sunday, it'd be nice to meet your delegation if you're going to still be there.

P.S. No need to bother with the formality of my username, you're more than welcome to call me Sam.

Sam, a fair few of us are staying over on both Friday and Sat. I'm sure there will be someone needing to share a room if you're stuck. Friday looks like being a Balti night in SparkHill and Sat is supposed Jool's Holland gaff to celebrate my 30th.

Check out the events page on www.macdroitwich.com -umoderated, uncensored and now with Supercover. Millions are coming back to retrieve their dummies, just ask G51 NAV of this parish.

Millions? I wasn't aware that place had offended quite so many...

All joking aside, I might well drop back in at some point and see how much it's changed. As far as I'm concerned the past unpleasantness can stay just there - the past.

Seems there are ways to get in..

The following post was made on the P4 Owners guild forum.

Hi guys

we the Rover coupe owners club wanted to say " were looking forwards to seeing all you guys at the show again this year"

we have had a little difficulty getting in this year, as at first we were turned away but after a little chat with the organisers managed to get onto the cancellation list.

So we'll see you guys in hall three on the 12Th November onwards.

Good luck for the show and hope it all goes well.

we'll come over and have a chat again at some point.

Well done to them I reckon.

Seems that with a little inginuity you can turn things around with the NEC organisers.

Mal.

Not really Mal,

It appears even if you are told you are first on the cancellation list then you are not given first priority.

Seems quite a few Rover clubs didn't get in this year. I guess they have to go with what they feel the majority of the public will wish to see.

I'm looking forward to going along anyway. Not decided whether to do the Friday or Sunday yet though.

We'll try again for a club stand next year.

I just purchased tickets for Sunday.

Where/how do you get tickets for the top gear mph show?

Austin-Rover
27th October 2009, 07:27
Oli, I wouldn't bother, its crap.

If you buy tickets for the Classic Car Show, you can get in the MPH for free. You're better off doing it this way. I would have been very upset had I paid good money to get into MPH.

The "show"(i.e the sit down theatre bit) is actually quite good - Dan won those tickets on offer from here a couple of years ago and it was great.

I agree, the theatre show was just pants...

Sorry for all the questions, what is the deadline for booking tickets to the classic car show and how much is it?

Captain Slow
31st October 2009, 16:13
AFAIK you can buy on the door at £18, or buy online for £13 if you put in a Club code.

At least, I hope you can buy on the door as I plan to - my lift's not certain yet so I don't want to buy and then find out I can't get.

I know it's late notice, but is anybody going to this event past junction 35 of the M1 on the Sunday? The lift I'd been offered has fallen through due to circumstances beyond my control (and that of the person who offered).

Cheers in advance.

Just want to say thanks to Dan and Lindsey for giving me a lift down today - had a great day, and to add to that some great conversation topics came up en route. Also thanks to Jonathan for putting up with me all day - had a superb time, and that Jag ride will not be quickly forgotten!

Pics to follow.

And thanks Sam for being a walking encyclopaedia, especially on the cars I'd never even heard of. It certainly helps to have a knowledgeable guide. :)

Barney wasn't there, well not inside the halls anyway.

The show was good with a lot more trade stands than previously (and so less room for club stands which were in much shorter supply it seemed). MPH was filled with the usual tat to buy and some nice cars too, and what seemed like the worlds supply of RR Phantoms. I counted 4 at least.

That's worrying. Wonder if he broke down on the way. He was supposed to be being driven down to the NEC from temporary storage in Wigan, whereupon the guy who's been storing him for several weeks would officially hand him over to his new owner. Hopefully they just changed plans at the last minute and Barney didn't instead blot his copybook by leaving someone stranded in crap weather. Funny how cars sometimes object to being sold by throwing an uncharacteristic tantrum for their new owner. Who says they're nothing but a metal tin on wheels.

Sorry I didn't see more than one Maestro - I was there on Saturday. I did go in the turbo but obviously parked in one of the carparks. The standard of all cars was impressive. I was interested mostly in the Wheeler Dealers stand and some of the Fords (notably the Sierra XR8), the numerous Jaguars and Rolls Royces and of course those lovely Rover P6s.

I can confirm that sadly Barney didn't make it to the show :( He broke down on the way with a broken rotor arm which the RAC were unable to repair after two attempts to source a replacement over several hours! Car and owner were eventually trailered home back to Surrey at 1am in the morning. The good news is I can report that he has since been repaired by the owner's local garage and is now back up and running. Full story on the Popular Classics forum in 02Man's blog section.
