I'm putting a digi-dash into my van.

I've come up with a few questions though which maybe people can help with

Firstly what is the purpose of the green wire on the dash. I've got it listed as 12V +ve. However it isn't wired in, yet I think everything appears to work properly. Is it a feed for the voice synthesizer (not plugged in yet).

Also should the dash dim when the sidelights are turned on? I think they do but mine doesn't seem to. Also does anyone know how the dimmer works (I've not got one currently - anyone got one spare kicking about - I can't seem to find my spare one).

Lastly does anyone know what sort of signal the speedo is? My speedo doesn't seem to be working, but I've not tested it thoroughly yet though.

Hi E T V

Have you tried looking in the Austin Rover Montego Repair Manual? - There's over 30 pages on the Driver Information Section (Digi Dash to you and me) and it refers to how various things work.

Montego digi-dash is very different from a maestro one. No way would I try and wire a montego digi-dash in. That would be insane!

Hi

Answer to your Green cable is as far as the Book says its in Pin 9 of plug C which should be the yellow one and its "Ignition Switched Power" acording to the wiring diagram "Power supplies circuit" its one of 3 +ve feeds. Two via switches - this Green one and a Red/black one from the lighting switch and the main one from the battery via fuse A4 which is purple and to pin 36 in plug C. Could this be why your spedo's not going ie Doesn't know the engines running!

Thanks for the help however I've read the wiring diagrams etc, I just need to know what it actually does when it gets to the dash.

My speedo transducer is the rover 600 one which then goes to the rover 600 ECU and then a spur comes to the digi-dash. I'm wondering if the 600 and the maestro senders have a different signal type.

Hi Dan,mine plugged in and 'worked' thw dash doesnt dim with the dimmer switch ,though the bulbs for the trip buttons and fuel/temp do.
Remember mine is efi ,but the only extra wires i needed was to the door swtch and the black/red speedo wire plus one from the ecu pin 11 IIRC. Not sure about the R600 speed transducer. I have still to make the hybrid on for mine
Russ
PS how are you going to wire the fuel flow?

I'm not going to wire in the fuel flow, its too much hassle and with a return to the tank it'll not be accurate anyway.

I can't remember if the display dims with the lights or not, I feel it should do but I can't remember for sure. I remember the dimmer did adjust the brightness of the display though on our old VP.

In the OE spec digi dash cars the dimmer wiring is seperate from the lights ,the rehostat varies the voltage on one of the ignition feeds.
What ive done with mine is incorperated the flood lights from the normal dash and these make the dash look much less stark at night and these still work with the dimmer.
