diesel break down

guys while collecting my ther montego from essex on the 27/03/04 in my diesel montgeo i came to a roundabout and she cut out no warning just cut out so i had to stop on the side of teh road and tried starting her it took me 2 goes the first time nothing happened then the second time i just kept turning the key and pumping the pedal until after about a minute she did try and start as i kept the key turning she did start but from the rear end came :censored: :censored: of smoke and thick black stuff at that what could be wrong i was told that the injector pump could be blocked bt she has been fine ever since but hse seems to lack power in all gears even when trying to over take a dare i say it a nissan micra on a straight bit of road in 3rd gear she had no power but now shes home i just cant see what could be wrong the cam belt hasn't slipted and i put a full tank of fuel in her and gave her a blast down the road and still the power is so ****e any ideas???

Is it s turbo diesel? if so is the turbo fried?

do you leave a black smoke trail wherever you go (indicating too much fuel), head gasket failure, dead injectors etc
Or does it just lack power which might be fuel starvation, blocked filter etc.

I had similar symptoms with my diesel for ages, gradually getting worse and more frequent until I eventually tracked it down to water in the fuel due to a hole in the filler neck as mentioned recently on another thread. Doesn't take a lot of water to stop a diesel. However I think this would cause white smoke but worth checking at least.

Yes there is the facility to drain water from the fuel filter if I recall correctly. There is a nut on the bottom of the filter or something. Might be worth a go.

i had a look today no water in the filter but the vac pump for the brakes is coverd in oil!!! also checked for water before the lift pump (opened the top and checked and no trace of water)but she does smoke badly when u start her from cold also she is using a lot of oil too but the smoke in the morning is black and very thick

right now i am getting:censored: :censored: off with my diesel today driveing her home from work she started to playaround while driving along at 60 mph. i noticed that while tryng to go faster she started to juder about a lot (like a miss fire) while she was doing this i looked out the rear view mirror and noticed a cloud of blue smoke every time she juderd is somethign about to go BANG !! or has something gone BANG i don't knwo about??? byt the way my mayfair needs a new rad any one got one??
