Hi Andy,
Had the same problem on my old Maestro years ago, cleaned up what I could, treated it, then cut and bonded in a plastic disc to form a new hole. Had to remove the filler pipe first. Interesting to see someone has come up with a plastic cowl. However:
Afterwards, I cut a piece of rigid (3mm at a guess) UPVC to fit underneath the top of the wheelarch, and used a U-bolt round the filler pipe to hold it in place. I did the same on my Ledbury when I first had it, and on my old Metro when getting that back on the road (on that, being a Mk1, the whole tank had to come out in order to effect and weld a new cowl where the old had rusted). That should keep any more dirt away from both filler pipe and cowling. Why didn't AR think of that in the first place?!
Good luck sorting it out!

oh yes the last metro i owned (1987 vanden plas) previously owned by rich gelder :woohoo: had a solid fuel filler surround but a comp rotten filler pipe, (and jacking points). all the muck had collected behind the filler pipe, the maestro i have now is the complete opposite. looking forward to getting it tidied up. regret selling my last one.

Yes, the fuel filler pocket that the MG 'M' Group sell is a direct replacement for the original part (CDP2207) but made from glass fibre instead of steel. It can be bonded in place and painted to match so it will look totally original.

The original batch of ten sold very quickly and we hope to get some more made soon so they are not currently in stock.
