I have an odd problem. My maestro drives, but feels a bit unstable on the suspension-I've been thinking rear shocks..

However, for the last month or 2, my DSF wheel has been making an irritating "squeak" as it turns-not all the time, no fixed pattern. Usually after a bit of a run, but not always. I thought brakes, as a dab on them shuts it up.

However, as I drive along, there is a constant "hiss" from that wheel..like a dragging..something. it's augmented by another different metal hiss when I hit the brakes. The first hiss seems to change with the roadwheel position, even if it's moved a little.

After getting home just, I did the walk round the car and put my hands on the wheels...2 rears are cold, PSF is warm to the touch, but DSF is noticeably hotter, especially things like the wheel studs.

Given that DSF front wheel has this continuous hiss, and a squeak the comes and goes just like it when the roadwheels are in certain positions..any idea what this is?

My thoughts are a dead wheel bearing..would that make the handling so very imprecise and unreassuring as it is? It really feels dicy sometimes.

Check the brake pads aren 't worn and brake calipers as they may be sticking.

Blast out the brake dust.

Possibly worn disc?

Hi sounds like you do have a front brake sticking on a little. Could be the pads stuck in the carrier or the caliper slides sticking. The dust seal on the cv joint can sometimes rub on the grease seal causing a quiet scuffing noise, lubricating usually solves this. As for dodgy handling I think like yourself more likely to be shocks, tyres or suspension related. :)

I know I'm always going on about it but you could do worse than going to Ledbury and investing in 2 off front driveshaft/bearing/brake caliper/disc/pads assemlies and 4 off damper assemblies.

Fitting realy is a doddle and when you're finished you'll have brand new suspension and front go/stop parts and it's only likely to cost you about the price of someone replacing your front wheel bearings.

You could even go mad and re-bush at the same time to give yor car that new feeling!

BUSH! Arrgh don't say that word. I'm looking for rear large strut upper rubbers and all the anti roll bar bushes and mountings. My MG Rover dealer can't get them, and my local tyre place is on the case but reckons that it'll be a long shot. At this rate I'm going to be bushwhacked! Seriously ensure that the parts that you want to replace are in actual fact available before starting the job. Ledbury do some excellent suspension components and have some bushes, but not all.
