when browsing I've noticed a prevalence of younger people on this site- in their 20s. What makes people of this age interested in maestys/montys? It must be a statistical aberration to all those nova/astra idiots?;) Should also say- I'm 24!
I've edited your post to swap it for some slightly more circumspect language! - Maria

I think the cars you grow up with also influence your enthusiasms when you get older. I spent quite a lot of my time in a frient's Maestro although I didn't realise ho good it was until I was given one some years later.
People in their 20s were growing up in the 80s.

They're cheap to buy, cheap to run and cheap to insure. Fits the bill exactly if your a young driver. Plus you get to drive a car with bags of character and can join a great club like this.
Dare to be different and drive a Maestro. (Or a Montego of course...)

My parents had 2. I always swore I wouldn't get one. Had a budget of £500 for my 1st car. Fiesta - too small. Ditto Nova, and most of those 2 were too sheddy for that money. Didn't want anything enormous. Then found a Maestro VP in pretty good nick. It had wood and chrome, PAS, alarm, central locking, sunroof and electric windows. What more do you want? Bags of style, good turn of speed and handling and all the toys too.

We had an Allegro estate and a Triumph Herald before the Maestys.
Still not quite sure how I came to own 4 of my own :o

I bought my first car (F170 GGT) when I was 15. Why so young? Well, I like to be different... ;)
My dad had three when I was growing up (not at once!) not that I remember the first one! I decided to do a search for "Maestro" on t'internet, after J373 ONC was written off. (I was bored! :D )
So Jan 2001 was when I first found this site, and two years later, I bought myself a lovely (little??) Maestro.
I made use of the Classifieds page for this, so a job well done by Jonathan! :p
A job well done by me too, finding such a good car for such a low price. ;) :p
So now at 16, I think I might have over-done it. Buying another two, then selling one, scrapping one, and buying another!
I may be young, but the Maestro bug has it's hold on me!

I guess it was a growing up thing for me as well. My dad owned several Allegro's during the 80's and early 90's. But I was after a van, any van, and came across my first after a couple of other veiwings. At the moment, I believe I am the only member of the National Street Van Association to posess a Maestro van! :D
BTW, I am 27.

I've always liked Rovers and did not want a Maestro out of choice, just that mine stood out at the local dealership and the deed was done, warranty thrown in as well...nice - my first Maestro. I drove my first 'M' car around home back in '99 though, a D reg Montego 1.3l which was as slow as hell but I'm sure the Maestros are quite a bit quicker. A G plate Rover 216S (£100)was then put my way later on in '99 when I was 15, and it had proper character and had much fun with it tearing round the field next to my house. I've since had a D-reg VP (spares) and have now got a 2.0 Auto VDP (also spares)as well as my TD Maestro.
