HI ALL,ive developed a realy bad screeching noice only when the car is moving when i turn left.its come from the front passenger side behind the front wheel. To me the noice it sound like it coming from the bottom of the shock absorber and my freinds and i have never heard a noice like it.Sounds like a loud rubber screeching squeeling noice.i dont want to change the shock absorber if thats not what the problem is . does anyone have any ideas or has had this type of problem before.thanks mac.:banghead:

sounds like the disc guard making contact with the disc. Have you had the caliper off? It's easy to get the guard locating holes on the inside of the hub carrier bolt holes making the guard too close to the disc. The bottom ball joint can then push the guard near to the disc when turning. If it is not this, there must be slight play in your wheel, which means wheel bolts are loose, or more likely wheel bearing has play! Try wobbling the wheel from top to bottom. If not this, then check if a stone is lodged between the disc and guard. Pretty certain it is the guard and disc making the noise as I've had this a couple of times before.

I've just had the self same problem. Driving my car to the mot and a loud rubber on rubber noise appeared...it was the wheel bearing had completley gone!!! when it was on the ramp the wheel rocked so much I thought the wheel bolts had been removed.

If its the stone guard, just bend it away from the disc; its very easy. Can even be done with the wheel on!

check the guard locating holes are on the inside of the hub carrier ( ie further away from the disc).
