Since it seems that F170GGT changes his avatars as often as I change my socks, I thought it would be fun to have a thread dedicated to them. Hope you don't mind, Steve!
Looking at the latest one this morning, are you hankering after a '75 per chance? I have driven loads of those at my new job, and I must say they are rather nice bits of kit!;)

Hahahaha thanks ATV! :) Is there any need to change your socks so much? ;)
The latest is indeed a Rover 75. It's my dad's new car in fact. :D  It will be arriving sometime next week, as it was bought earlier today. I haven't seen the car yet (apart from pictures) so I will look forward to it.
It is a W reg 1.8 Classic SE in Wedgewood Blue, with 21k on the clock. Apparently it is immaculate. (So mum says!)

:p

Great stuff Steve. My dad also has a W-reg 75 Classic SE - Dorchester Red I think. He is on his second after the Midnight Blue one was stolen!

Have you driven it yet Steve? It is something else - so smooth.

Good news: The 75 fits on our driveway!

Bad news: The 75 fits on our driveway! (Means my Maestro can stay outside! :banghead:  )

Just a suggestion.....

In order to keep your car on the drive, simply leave it on the road blocking the driveway (as in your photo) and go out for a few hours, remembering to take all the keys with you.
After two or three lockins, I guess your dad will find roadside far more acceptable! My dad did! Eventually! (all be it 20 years ago)

I've only just noticed H48HPE's avatar. BBC2 Telly test card? Blimey, I haven't seen that in yonks! :p

H48HPE
18th May 2004, 22:14
yes, you just dont see it any more since they broadcast throughout the night. it used to come on in a morning befor the kids TV programs or whatever program was on started, I remember watching it waiting for it to go off and the programs to start. probably about 17 years ago now.

I think its still the one they use when they need to but they dont need to use it much anymore.
picture below (so this makes sence after the avatar gets changed!)

the 'X' in the midle of her chalk board represents where the center of the screen should be, for aligning the tube (boring fact of the day)

And for moments of extreme boredom only, check out the Test Card Circle. Fascinating stuff, and conclusive proof that there really is a group/society to cater for just about every specialist subject!

I'm pretty sure the above screen was discontinued somewhere around early '92 or thereabouts as I remember waiting for C itv (Children's ITV) to come on in the mornings sometime.

John

H48HPE
27th May 2004, 21:11
that wouldnt have been on ITV because it was just a BBC test card i think. I cant remember an itv one. I personally prefered CBBC but chanel 4 had some good stuff on like happydays and batman from about 6 in the morning, i remember getting up to watch them when i was about 5

MaestroMatt
28th May 2004, 08:41
I have to agree with you about CBBC (although I'm biased as I now work there) but my current pre-work viewing has to be Transformers on GMTV2 (ITV2 in the morning) from about 6.45 to 7.15 - handily finishing just as I leave the house. Well, it beats the news.

They recently interveiwed the girl in the test card on BBC South Today. (Those in the Oxon, Hants, Berks, Dorset area might have seen it too. It was quite interesting to see her after 37 years!

Pink is certainly your colour...

Were there not a range of Test Cards used by the other channels or just the BBC? I'm a bit too young to remember them vividly...

D87 SMW
1st June 2004, 22:35
Pink is certainly your colour...

... he says. ;)

All channels had a test card of some sort. They displayed them to test the transmitters, and so there was always a signal going out on the required frequency.

Have a look at this: http://www.meldrum.co.uk/mhp/testcard/ita_test.html

They also used to play the national anthem before evening closedown! I remember the testcard, some of the music was quite good, some of it was rubbish. I remember the ATV for schools programme logo, and brought back hideous memories of me being off school with chickenpox when I was 8 (in 1973) My mum switched on the telly and then went into the kitchen to do some ironing or something, leaving me to watch the box. What did I see?

How a baby gets born :horror: Eeeewwwwww

I don't think I fancied my dinner that lunchtime!

I'm sure there were some trade test colour films made around the early 1970's such as how the car engine works, the dairy industry, the building of Coventry Cathedral and possibly one on throwing pots on a potters wheel. Telly was good back then, you sometimes had to whack the set because the vertical hold kept going.

Sad? Old? Me? Yup! But I do drive a Maestro after all ;)

MaestroMatt

Ah, they still do that on Radio 4 which is better than the telly anyway.

Having said that, this year's Big Bro is rather good...
