My car seems to do the same, when you turn the ignition switch try depressing the gas pedal once as this seems to set it.

Part of the starting instructions for the diesel cars is to turn the ignition on and before you attempt to start it depress the throttle pedal once fully. (This gives the fast idle solonoid chance to lock in) Then start it. Also the wire that connects the solonoid is very prone to working itself lose or breaking.

i did this every time i started her and othing happened so why after the past 18months has it not worked the wire that goes to it is ok as i replaced it from he diesel engine i removed from my countryman estate when the rest rotted out from round it

no not really i took al the sensors out of the donor car and off the engine and placed them on my daily use monty as they where all new ones ( i got the countryman cheap for parts only it had just had a service as well which was good so i used it for a month and then the mot and tx ran out oso i used it for parts. so i think every thing should be ok ...
