Hello all,

With regard to my 1600 MG Maestro (Y reg - 18/05/1983) I have a question about engine numbers.

On the V5 the number is quoted as LM100101994, however, looking at the metal plate on the engine it is: 16HA03AL 104741.

Can anyone shed any light on the two engine numbers; more specifically the current one and exactly what engine type it is?

The engine in definitely and R series (I believe!!) with the twin carbs.

Many thanks

Tim

Hmm, could it be that the engine was replaced somewhere along the line?
A good way of telling if it is an R series is to know where the carbs are. If they are at the front of the engine, it is an R, and if they are at the back, then it is an S. Hope that helps. Al.;)

Thanks for that; yep, it's definantly an R series.

But does anyone know what model engine it is from the engine number? Or is it not possible to tell?

Was the 1600 MG engine different to the normal 1600's of the time in any way? Just the twin carbs? Different cams', etc.?

Thanks

Tim

I think there was possibly a "warmer" cam fitted but I can't remember where I heard that sorry.

This is purely speculation, and I can't be definite, but I think the engine number is the last 6 digits you have posted on the engine, I'm sure my MG had the same number there as on the logbook for the LM10 number until we replaced the engine. From memory it was LM1000111848, can't think what it is now.......
In summary, I think you've had a new engine!

HTH,

Ricky.
