View Full Version : Petrol tank removal

I'm in the thrones of dimantling a Clubman, but now comes the petrol tank.
Does anyone have any good ideas of how to bung the holes in a safe manner. I've see tanks with red caps in the place where the filler pipe goes in and the pipes come out. Has anybody bunged these holes up and what can I use to do it without contamination or fear of fuel spillage. (The tank has about 3 litres in it)

I usually put a bolt in the rubber pipes coming off of the tank, and a rag down the filling hole once removed. So long as the fuel level is low fuel won't come out when you drop it down from the car. When the gauge shows empty there is still typically 10 litres of fuel in the tank so beware there may be more fuel/weight than you anticipate! (I dropped a half full diesel tank once and I'll not make that mistake again. It was rather heavy!)
