Just wondering how many regulars on the forum are club members?
I am by the way
Its a very friendly club with plenty of advice and a wide verity of members. Ive been a member since about February 2003, and a regular visitor to the forum/website since late 2001. Many times Ive received help and constructive comments from other members of the forum, becoming a club member brought other benefits such as the chance to purchase now NLA parts from the spares section.

Just to make clear, that it doesn't matter. All non-club members are welcome on the forum for advice as much as anyone else.Hopefully the forum will persuade you all to join up :D

I read the forums for about 6 months, then felt brave enough to start posting.
Now I look after all your memberships :D, so any of you forum members who are considering joining the club it is well worth it. Monstro is especially well worth the read :)

don't worry if it is a bit ratty round the edges, George (the one in my avatar) turned up at BL last year complete with rust all over and a rather unusual shaped door and a rather fetching set of roof bars!. He isn't any better this year (more rusty) but I will still take him out unless I manage to get one of my others on the road first!
As for me, I lurked on the old forums for a while (6 months) then posted lots, then as we moved over to the new forums I became a member, then at the last AGM in a fit of insanity I took over job of monstro editor. In the space of a year we went from owning 1 maestro to owning 4.

This is the same situation with me. Just consider me as one of those on the sidelines working on getting their car (or van!) back on the road, and then joining up when they go to one of the shows.;)

Condition is not important at all for turning up to meets. You'll find everyone's interested in your car whatever the state. If you don't want to bring it though, at least bring yourself and put some faces to names :)

Very satisfied member for the past 2 (or 3?) years, during which time my white Maestro has been joined by a much older blue one with nicer paintwork.
'Tis great to meet as many people as possible at least once a year and put yet more names/avatars to faces.

I've been a member of the club for a few years now, not sure when exactly I joined, but it was when I first got H902, offered to help out with regalia as was wanting a sticker of all things for the car to promote the club, and am still doing it now.....

i browsed the forums before joining, i found them helpful and interesting. i haven't been to any meets yet but am hoping to at some point. i always thought everyone elses maestros were more immaculate than mine, but i now realise that it aint always the case! i find that occasionally i maybe out of my depth on some forum topics and that i cant really add anything of use therefore i just browse and input when i can. i love my car but i dont have the time or money to spend on my car as i would like to. either way i like the website and its useful to anyone with a maestro as they can find stuff out that they cant really ask a rover garage ...member or non member... it aint important to any maestro lover.:)

I was a lurker then a poster for some time before I joined. I took out the bargain two-year membership deal to encourage me to make sure A82 stays ont he road for at least that long... ;-)
I've been a proud card carrying member since August last year, although I didn't really start browsing the forums until recently. I am totally hooked on it now though and have recieved some very useful tips from all you guys. Haven't really ever been to any shows except MG M but hope to get out and about abit more this year. My two Montys are like my kids (expensive, constant attention but at the end of the day, don't you just love them to bits) and neither are up to the standard I'd like yet. If I don't manage to get one on the road this year, I'll certainly be getting around in the other! Long live our Montys and Maestys!

Erm, well it was like that, quite the advertising mobile! However on fitting the new tailgate, I lost a majority of them, which I havent replaced. It was quite a history thing there too, as all the sample ones went in there for approval and never came out! The "Now wer're Motoring" one was the first sample one, I remember I had come home late, and was in the dark at about half eleven sticking it into the window! Very exiting (well I thought it was)!!

I am not a member of the club as my main interest is the MG versions, I am a member of the MGM club and a local modified car club, SMCC (http://www.sussexcarz.com) which is enough for me.
I do find the forum a good rea (most of the time) though.

Hi there!
Although reading and writing posts here and owning 4 Maestros at current, I am not considering membership of the club. But who knows what the future will bring...?
Indeed it is very good that the Maestro has it's own owner's club - and from what I have seen it is a very fine one. So why am I not a member then? It would probably be one too much. The car collecting part of the family has memberships of 5 car club's already (4 in the UK), and me the driving force behind it...
Without trying to persuade anybody, just a bit of food for thought: If you are very enthousiastic about an old car (or any car after all), why do you need the clubs? Tips and tricks are freely available on different places of the net, as are contacts to other people with similar interests or sources of spares. It is even possible to organize meetings through chatgroups etc... But how would the classic-car hobby be without the big shows? Without the big auto-jumbles? Who would be the driving power to organize these if not clubs with a certain membership number (organizing events can be expensive!) and at least a few people who volunteer to do the work. And who is doing the lobby-work when legislative is regarded if not the clubs or their organizations (like the FIVA on European level)?
So I do really recommend being a member of a club, may it be a local classic car club not caring for a particular make - or a specialized club like the MMOC is. I certainly know that not anybody has the possibilities to volunteer for things like club magazine editor, which is very time consuming, but any member should ask him-/herself if there isn't a small thing left to do. Over here in Germany the classic car clubs have falling membership numbers since not many 'young' people are joining in. May this be due to the internet or the clubs simply not being attractive for them to join in. But if numbers fall too much it may happen that well loved events may get lost or representation of our interests in front of local, national or EC governments will get weaker as it already is...
Ok, rant over....
Regards,
Alexander

I am not a member yet, but as soon as I find another decent Montego estate (it will be my third), preferably a diesel, I will join.
Like most people, I watched the forum for a while before registering.
Having checked out a number of clubs, MMOC is by far the best on-line that I have seen especially on Rover or British Leyland.
Well done all concerned. :)

I'm not a member (yet). I've had my Monty DLX for about 2 months now and am beavering away, tarting it up, coming here for advice. Need to find out how the payments thingy works, Would be bringing Jo (better half) and Chloe (newest member of the clan) to the meets so need to find out if I should take out membership on all three of us.
Also on the prowl for either a DT estate for me so I can give Jo the saloon OR a Maestro for her to potter around in when I'm at work. So could be a two Austin family soon and I can be rid of the Pug 405 estate, Then onto the other project, a Fiat 126!!!!
As you can tell, I'm slowly going car mad....

I do think its time for the MMOC to become the MMMOC, the cars are all related after all, and many people that have Monty's and Maestro's also have a Metro somewhere... We will soon have another Metro to add to our Rover Metro Si in the family, and they are great fun to drive!

He He the best fun SI are the auto ones with an auto box they are just a go kart
Dont worry i dont intend to invade the club, its just this forum is more interesting than the Performance Metro clubs Forum where all they talk about is "where is the best place to get some limo tints and how loud is my stereo".

What you (you mean the commitee) needs is more members ON the commitee!
I'll be joining the MG FWD commitee end of the month, later in the year it's looking likely that i could also be on the MG M commitee also.
I'm pretty dedicated to keep our cars preserved, even more so as time progress.

We did consider the Metro option a few years ago, in fact Lindsey took over looking after memberships from Tom Morley who's pampered Metro Knightsbridge often graced our stand at the shows because other than in one make parking there was no other way he could show it.
From what I can remember we concluded at the time that adding the massive range of Metros would severely dilute the focus of the club. Keeping it to Maestros and Montegos at least gave us the luxury of being able to specialise - and these two models are enough of a handfull to deal with as it is!
And they've got hydragas :horror:
A well raised point though, because the options do need considering by someone soon.

9th July 2004, 19:15
Hey nothing wrong with hydrogas :) apart from when well informed kids that think its funny to see a rather low metro . Got to admit though i did enjoy meeting members of the club. More interesting than talking to the usual metro owners, but we wont go into that :p .

Hi Darren,
Welcome to the forums, nice to see you have a MG Montego, don't get to see many of them around nowadays, and the turbo variety of the monty is becoming even rarer. If you have pictures I am sure everyone would be interested to see.
I hope you enjoy catching up on all the threads you read, and hopefully we can make you feel welcome.
