Something I have heard of before but never encountered: If the drive dog on the end of the S series 1.6 camshaft comes away with the rotor arm when attempting to pull it off, how is it re-secured onto the camshaft? What is it's method of attachment in the first place? Someone has emailed me with this enquiry and I promised that I would find out for him. (It's not me, honest ;))

I always *thought* it was just a press on. I've never tried to get one off/on though, so I can't be sure - they're usually well secured!

This is something not just related to S series engines.
I have heard of the same happening to O series engines when changing the rotor arm.
As for the remedy, Im not 100% sure.
There is listed in the legacy epc a securing bush for the "drive dog", but dont have it to hand to comment on part no.s.

Hi Simon. The drive or stubshaft that the rotor arm is mounted on, is pressed into a small metalastic bush. The bush itself is pressed into the camshaft first then the drive is pressed into the bush.
What generally happens is the rubber part of the bush gets ripped out when the rotor arm is tight on the D drive, with the inner part of the bush still attached. In this instance the old bush in the camshaft needs to be removed first then a new bush fitted. Once the old inner part of the bush has been removed from the D drive, the drive can be refitted into the new bush. I put a diagram of the correct rotor position when the timing is aligned for no.1 cylinder into a similar thread somewhere.
If just the D drive pulls out leaving the bush intact, the drive can be refitted and secured with a small amount of loctite.
