hello everyone, i have been posting the odd question on here and thought it would be polite to explain what i am doing. i am a life long mini man,and compete in historic rallies in a "66 cooper, i also have a works type S and am currently doing a "63 cooper with me dad that he has owned from new. so to the maestro, i have always liked them and wanted a diesel saloon for years, i have finally got one, it comes tonight, 52000 miles 2 owners non turbo with pas and fsh, it is in bits as it has had a front end 12 years ago, and never re-built, i dont know the feeling, but i am convinced that if the abingdon comps dept had carried on, they would have used maestros as recce cars and service vehicles, my intention is to create a car that looks like a works type support car,the car is red,so the basic plan is ,
1/ satin black bonnet and wing tops
2/1/4 front bumpers
3/lucas 20/20 spotlights
4/mudflaps
5/ gold minilites
6/commercial sumpguard
7/rigard challenge seats
8/ austin rover sunstrip
9/ body decals, unipart service etc

i then intend to use it daily for work and for towing the rally car, i think the set up would look a real eyefull and hopefully people might see where i am coming from. here are some pics of the "period" trailer i have just done and a couple of the minis, i hope you guys will help me as i go along and hope the project meets with approval, i am in the motor trade so will be posting for advice on sourcing stuff etc
thanks guys and gals

You sure about the Minilites? I reckon that by this time they'd be using gold-painted MG X-spokes.

Give me a day or so and I'll come up with a quick photoshop of your idea for you.

EDIT: Are you after a metal or plastic bumpered car? I presume metal from your original post, but the MG (Undoubtedly what they'd have used) had plastic. Diesels could be had with both, so it doesn't narrow it down.

i have the car, diesel, metal bumper, have gone for the non turbo diesel for economy, the mg i agree would have been an ideal chase car, but for hard work as a service/ recce car i still favour the diesel:cool:

Welcome.
Love Mini's .
They have a rich pedigree and your cooper looks gorgeous.
They are something special.
I thought it was a big big shame when they did away with the original Mini in favour of the new.
OK i accept that the new Mini is a good car and much more up to date but there was something about the original that was quite special.
I believe the original Mini never made a profit and yet it was so popular.
I like the sound of what you intend to do with the Maestro.
Are you taking your paint scheme idea from the Landcab racing vehicles?
I think you will find wherever there are car enthusiasts you will always be welcome whether you own a maestro/montego or not.

and this is where i am up to, using it every day, it tows the mini no prob, will post a pic of the full set up soon, i have to say,in my humble opinion, the 2.0 D maestro has to be one of the most underated cars ever, i think it is brill, honeatly have not used my 325 bmw since re-commisioning the maestro,
