Hi all

Non maestro or montego related question -

Our rover 25 TD is being very poor regard fuel economy consistancy.
One minute it will do 500 to a full tank and the next, you'l just about get 300.

I think the water temperature sender is nackered btw (dunno whether this is relivant on this engine)

Its a later type L series (54 plate) just to be clear

thanks in advance - advice appreciated

Ben

Yo got a leak....check all hoses?

mine used to get loose with the jubilee clip adjacent to fuel tank
check for any diesel spray around the engine...tighten bolts etc

:banghead:dunno

Injector leak off pipes are a common failure. The guages aren't the most accurate things in the world so check the actual mpg noting the number of litres it takes to fill it up each time.

fuel economy generally is as constant variable like the weather...
as it depends on:

air temp
Wind resistance
rain
tyre pressures
engine cleaness
air filter / last service
oil quality / last service
diesel quality
driver's irratic agressive style......

but in your case it has to be a leak from somewhere?!!

if the temp sender is out or the thermostat is dodgy, then the engine will overfuel as it'll be sending incorrect signals to the ECU.
