View Full Version : Not a terrible day part 2? (Headlining)

While my car's away for the respray, I thought I'd tackle the headlining. I'd bought all the gear, as advised, some time ago from Woolies and I'd already removed the biscuit. I used a suede shoe brush to get rid of all the old 'dust-like' foam from the biscuit, which it did admirably. I then applied the brush on glue to the biscuit. This took longer than thought ( about 20 mins) by which time, I was high and the glue felt dry! (rhyme not intended!).Maybe an aerosol would have been quicker. I decided to go over the 'dry' bit again, and the glue seemed to spread quicker. I then applied the headlining with the help of another pair of hands. Plenty of 'rubbing' the headlining down and into the 'creases' seemed to bond the headlining down ok. I then proceeded to 'cut-out' the sunroof areas and bonded all the edges over with more glue on the back edges. All seems to have gone well and looks superb! It is now back in my garage setting. However, looked at a few past threads tonight and some seem to have a problem with polystyrene biscuits! Typical. Next time I see it it will probably look like an overcooked piece of shrivelled bacon! Oh well, at least I haven't refitted it to the car yet. Wait for next post, 'what a terrible day 2'!

Sorry didn't get back Jum re front wings - all five bar one were pass sides. The driver side one not too bad and was in Silver Leaf not Pulsar Silver. If you don't need it I'll keep it after looking at mine where it fits at the foot of the door on my green Monty (tried to undo the bolt and it undid but it wasn't holding anything as that part of the wing had rotted!).
One of the other pass side wings was the same, this part completely gone!
So I chucked that one.

Re headlining - I thought all Montys had the polystyrene biscuit. I used a USA type glue (will check the name if you want it) - orange sort of colour, makes you high! - this repairs cracks and splits on the biscuit brilliantly.
I have used aerosol glue - yeah, quick - but headlining falls down after a couple weeks.
What glue did you use - Unibond?

Thanks for looking for the wing. I ended up buying a genuine LH from Rimmers ( £50) but after dicussing with my mate, he will repair RH, but will let you know if anything changes. The problem you had with the bottom bolt was same for me on LH! Going to keep the wing though as can be repaired. The glue I used came from Woolies with the headlining but looks and smells like Timebond. Hey, G51NAV, so far so good with the headlining. Peeped in the garage today and all looks well!;)

I am planning to do my headlining soon. Do you have any pictures of the end result?

Hi Mat, I am off work today so will get some posted up in next hour or so. It still looks good but is now on our dining room table!;)

Here's some pics of my headlining. Quite proud seeing as it was my first attempt! The biscuit cracked in the bottom left corner of the pic, but glued it back together with the Woolies glue! You can just see a crease. Fingers crossed it doesn't start sagging as soon as fitted to car!:o
