Montego VP, GSi, Turbo, MG (I think), and the Rover 800 range all had the R681 IIRC. So did the Maestro VP as an option, and I think the MG as an option too.

Difficult to find unfortunately :( Hundreds if not thousands skipped when cassettes lost vogue...some people now want to put them back as a final touch to a factory-spec resto...can't find them!
They do turn up now and again. You could even be lucky that someone reading this has a spare one

Ok thanks for the replies, much appreciated.
Looks like I will have to lean on the ex to try to find it!! In the meantime will keep my eyes peeled in case one comes up.

Were the Meastro Turbo radios the same as the Montego Turbo? I will still have mine somewhere in the garage, and am not fussed about putting it back. If it is the same you can have it, if I can find it that is! I defo haven't chucked it, but I recall it used to chew tapes! If you want it, bear with me, as my garage is like a jungle at the moment! In fact each time I venture in there, I get worried about being shot by a sniper!

99% sure that later Montego Turbos used the same R681s. It probably chewed tapes because it wanted cleaning. Not meaning just you personally, but cleaning tape heads, capstans & pinch-rollers with a cotton bud and some head cleaning fluid seemed an alien concept to most people.

Your quite correct. The Montego Turbo and EFI (from 88-91 Facelifted version with smooth rear lights) and MG Maestro Turbo and Rover 827 Sterling,Vitesse etc and all top models all were fitted with the R 681 radio. of course with the top model 800's you could specify an even higher spec option.
The radio 's have the model number on one of the outer corners. I would tel you which but the cars all tucked up at the moment.

I might have a spare one in the drawer.
Just seen this post, so it won't be for a while, as I have just come back from the barn!.

Thanks for JumTurbo for the offer, may take you up on that but will wait to hear from MGMal first if thats ok, only I have to make a trip over to the barn sometime to pick up a boot lid so might aswell combine the two. That said funds permitting I may take you up on it anyway as the Monty Turbo didnt come with any headunit so still need to sort that one out too. Pls do let me know if you find it ;)
Thanks to all that have replied to this thread, much appreciated.
Cheers
Carl:)
