Ledbury will probably have one, or there is somewhere near warwick selling new ones for about 100 quid. Dave has the details I think.

Oh yes forgot to ask, what is wrong with the one you have? It may be fixable, there isn't a lot on the A series that isn't :D

it's pressurizing the cooling system way too much (combustion gasses i think), contaminating the oil with water, and generally just suffering from the effects of 320,000 miles of abuse

Cracked block then same as mine, I went through 4 headgaskets in a year. (I blame the hard life as a police panda car)
New ones can be had for 100 notes with ancilaries. I got a 12,500 mile one from a scrap yard for 50 quid.
Have a search for ledbury or new engines and see what you find. Failing that Dave will know as he got one and come to think of it has a 40k mile engine he's looking to get rid of.

I bought a new 1.3 engine for my car from this bloke, he had about 60 of them when I got it, hes in Warwickshire. raygail.warr@virgin.net this is his e-mail address, and his name is Ray Warrington his day number is 01296 496677 or in the evenings 01926 495150
He is selling them for £100 notes each, they come with everything apart from the alternator, mine even has new leads, and oil filter on it! He will lift it into the back of your van no probs, or it will go in the back of a Maestro hatchback no probs as well. They come on small pallets with a hole cut out in which the sump slots into. You seriously cant go wrong with these, Dave bought one for his car and had no problems with it, mine is yet to be fitted.
Ledbury in Herefordshire has a few new engines, he also had 5 speed gearboxes, the engines are more or less the same as above, I dont know how much ledbury will charge for an engine, but he would also be able to supply alternator and starter motor brand new, as well as any new engine mounts you may want.

Will they go straight into the saloon or are they van engines?

IIRC they have van mountings. There is no difference in the engines. I don't think there is that much hassle changing the mountings, Dave will be able to let you know.

The following images are of the engine/gearbox mountings for the late (Ledbury/Parkway) Maestros. These are the said van engines.

They are not specifically van engines, the only difference is the mounts. They are late engines, and all the late engine were of a 4 point mounting arrangement, rather than the two mounts and silly tie bar arrangement. They were used originally in police spec hatchbacks, and vans, but on later models were were the only type used.
The mounts can be obtained either from a 1.3 van, or from Ledbury, as all the cars from there were this later spec, as you can see in F170's pics. There is also another one, which is behind the engine.
Its by far and large, a much better mounting arrangement!

Is there a diffrence between hatch and van mounts
or is it early and late
or metal or plastic bumpers?

As I understand it:
Vans have always had 4 point engine mounts
Cars used to have 3 point ones (My J reg one still does
Very late cars have the same mounts as the Van
Police cars and some exports to Switzerland etc had 4 point mounts.
All the engines were the same, just the mounts differ.
