Have found the problem with my EFi as to why it is jumping about and misfiring. Its the throttle potentiometer. I have set it and the car is now much better most of the time though sometimes it still plays up.

Has anyone got a good one that they would like to sell?

Have ordered a new one from Rover as they are still available.

Its ok when cold but as it gets hotter it starts to go open circiut intermittantly. Will need to set it all up again now with the new one and get the car over to my mates MOT station to set the emissions

Well i have sorted my running problems fitted a new potiometer which helpped alot though still didnt cure the problem.

When starting from cold the car drives as it should even when hot. The problem comes when it is left for a short time with a hot engine (like stopping at the shops) When you come back to the car and try to drive off it jumps about and misfires badly. I changed the potiometer as after i ajusted it the car was as good as gold for a couple of days (luck i guess) In desperation, with thecar misfiring under all throttle on my drive, i fitted a brand new and sealed ignition ecu and problem solved, as soon as i refit my old one fault occurs striaght away.

The ecu i have on the car now is for a MPI m series Rover 820. It runs well with this ecu but i think it has taken the edge of the car, as the car doesnt seem as quick. the good side though is now i can run 95 octane unleaded.

So if anyone else has a simluar problem could be the ignition ecu

Funny, that.

I used to get exactly the same thing on my Efi, although in the end I put it down to fuel evaporation and just lived with it, as it would clear after less than half a mile.

Maybe, when it eventually goes back on the road, I might just swap an ECU and see if it makes a difference!
