I've got a 1.3 engine from a G reg clubman I want to strip and rebuild, but is there such a thing as a full engine gasket set? insted of individual bits.
Rover dealers are about helpful as Rover people can be (Latin for Rover dealers: Stupidous per Thickium) They wanted me to buy 5 sets, as that is how they come!! and pay off their total debts.
Anyone know where to get a full set at a reasonable price?

Not seen one "as such" but...........

Basically all you need is a complete head set, and a sump set + other aux gaskets all available from motor factors and Mini spares stores.

Most of the gaskets ever used on an engine are on the head, so there are few 'non-head' related gaskets to change.

keep an eye out on ebay etc , theres always loads on.

But make sure you get a quality branded /NOS set

There are two gasket sets listed from Rover (though i am not sure they would be still available.

Head gasket set, AJM 1238
Supplementary gasket set (block) , BHM 1484

Those two sets contain all ther gaskets you would need

I think what you need used to be termed a "conversion gasket set". Quite why it is called that, I don't know? You can get them from motor factors I believe.

There is a decoke set (which is the head) and a supplementy set which is the block.
The conversion set is a head set the same as a decoke set (used when decokeing the head and valves) but called conversion as these this set of gaskets would be need to convert to a head to unleaded

Nope.

There's a gasket set called a 'conversion set', that as Simon says, contains gaskets and seals for the block, as opposed to the head.

I know this to be true, as I've ordered quite a few of them for different engines, from our local motor factors.

Edit: Search eBay for "conversion gasket set" and notice that most of them contain sump and block seals and gaskets.

hmmm thats interesting, i wonder why they call it a coversion set then. Land Rovers conversion set for the 2 and 3 quather petrol was to convert to unleaded

Probably one of those traditions that just carries on long after the original purpose has ceased to be relevant. In other words, I dunno ;)
