Hi all,

My much-loved Ledbury Maestro (in which I successfully completed a charity rally around Europe in 2006) has come back to me following 2 years as my brother's family car. He has decided to replace it following clutch failure over Christmas.

I don't really have any use for the car but at the very least I want to get it back on the road for a few month's fun, so was wondering if anyone knows for sure which clutch kit I need for the Ledbury model?

The latest 1.3 Maestro clutch listed is for 1988-1993 (which I assume is when they 'officially' stopped making the A-series version, what with the need for catalytic converters and so on) though mine is registered in 1997 on an R plate.

Does anyone know for sure whether the 1998-1993 clutch is indeed the right part? Otherwise I guess I'll have to take the old one out and compare.

Also, is there any tips or anything else i should know about doing the clutch on a Ledbury before I start?

Many thanks,

Simon

Always a problem when confronted with something like this. Not an expert at all on A series but from what I remember when I had a 1.3 Maisty (only one I have ever had - all rest being 2 litre Montys) was the clutch plate size - going back a bit but I think some models had a smaller dia.
1.6 I'm sure had a 200mm clutch plate. Perhaps you can uprate it?

So if it were me, I'd dismantle first, especially if you are intent on getting it back on the road - it's got to come out anyway! Then match clutch and plate at motor factor or wherever. Can't get it wrong then.:D

I would assume, and its only and assumption, that the Ledburys would have a van clutch, due to there high ratio gearbox, the van clutch is slightly bigger than the car one for obvious reasons, but I think you will find either clutch would work fine, theres no difference (as I am aware) to the starter motor (I have fitted car ones to vans and vice versa) and the gear box splines are the same (I have fitted gearboxes vice versa too). So I rekon any clutch will do!

As above, there is a standard duty one and a heavy duty/van one which was fitted to the 1.6's too which is slightly larger in diameter. Either will fit and work fine, however if you have the choice then fit the larger one as you'll most liklely never have to change it again.

Thanks all for the advice. I've decided to take the old clutch out and go from there. Think I'll wait 'til it gets a bit warmer though! I'll let you know how I get on...

Having just last week completed a clutch replacement on my own Ledbury, I can tell you that asking for a clutch for a '94 Clubman 1.3 and then installing it works absolutly fine.
