Hi All

I'm just after some advice about flushing out my heater to try and improve the heat output. I have done the usual things (88 Thermostat, checked heat switches behind the fusebox etc). Both heater hoses & pipes are hot, but only luke warm air is coming through.

I read in a similar thread about flushing out the heater matrix to remove any blockages. My plan this week is to put some rad flush in the system, then drain it. Also, will remove the hoses from the heater to flush it out. This is the point where I need some help. How to I actually flush out the heater? Do I just use a hose pipe or will I need a pressure washer to blast it out?

Thx

Have a read of a thread I wrote ages ago called "how to make your heater hotter" or something like that.

Essentially you disconnect the hoses at the bulkhead. scrape any loose stuff you can see out and then use a hosepipe on each connection alternately until the water runs clear, i.e. flush the matrix then flush it the other way to distrub stubborn deposits. You need volume of water not pressure so a pressure washer won't be suitable usually and could actually damage it.

If it is a diesel then also flush the metal coolant hose behind/below the inlet manifold as that gets full of rust too.

I'd add the rad flush after doing the above to remove any last bits as the hose pipe will be far more effective at getting rid of the large lumps.
