MG Saloon Day 2004, Coombe Park, Coventry
SUNDAY 04TH JULY 2004

MG Saloon Day is the MG'M' Group's national event, the Maestro & Montego Owners Club attending as guests for the 6th year running. Overall members enjoyed a fine day out with only the occasional shower NOT managing to dampen spirits. The usual good selection of MG Metros, Maestros and Montegos was there for all to see although it did seem as though either numbers were down on previous years with less examples now on the road or the attendance by other guest clubs had grown to overshadow us! Whatever the case, there were some interesting and unusual cars to be seen including a Montego pickup conversion and Nick Bonthrone's "perfect" MG Maestro 1600 rebuild.

Our non-MG stand was disappointingly a little depleted but included Rich Gelder's R reg "Ledbury" kit car, Lindsey Smith's 1983 Maestro Vanden Plas and ex-Police car, Simon Heap's Maestro Mayfair, Rich Lodge's Maestro Van, John Shone's Turbo lookalike Maestro TD, and several more early Maestro VPs. Where were all the Montegos hiding?

This year also saw the debut of our new look pre-event barbecue & camping the previous night complete with a glowing gazebo that could be seen for miles around the campsite near Rugby, even worse jokes than before and a stray group of Metro enthusiasts all of which would become a regular feature of subsequent events!
