BMC/BL Rally 2002 (Peterborough)
SUNDAY 4TH AUGUST 2002
We call the annual BMC/BL Rally in Nene Park, near Peterborough, our national event for obvious reasons. It's the only car show of its kind in the country bringing together BMC and BL enthusiasts of all denominations and even from all over the world, so there's always plenty to look at and no excuse for missing out.
2002 was no exception and the Maestro & Montego Owners Club stand was possibly the largest at the rally with 20 cars on display throughout the day, demonstrating once again the dedicated following that the cars are gaining. We were rather Maestro dominated but were graced with the presence of three Montegos, and most would agree that overall most models were represented from a well preserved early base model in rattan beige to an MG Maestro Turbo.
Despite a slightly dodgey forecast the weather held out and we enjoyed a warm and dry day, despite widespread torrential rain elsewhere in the country! There were plenty of Maestro and Montego spares to be had in the autojumble, including bargains like a new set of early 14 inch Maestro alloy wheels for £90.
Same again next year then, only bigger and better still if we can help it!
